Jim Porter is an internationally published freelance writer, book author, and fishing guide located in Central Florida. With 800+ published articles and hundreds of photos to his credits, Jim's work has appeared in BassMaster, Bassin', Bass'N Gal, many State Game and Fish publications, and numerous newstand magazines. Jim is a past member of the Sports Afield Fishing Advisory Panel and the former host of the 'Alabama Sportsman' on ABC-TV. He was a founder of the Military Bass Anglers Association (MBAA), which is second only to B.A.S.S. in years of active existence. He specializes in Southern freshwater fishing and intracoastal saltwater, but has been known to 'hair-lip' a mountain trout or two.
Jim has been lucky enough to fish for bass in four countries around the World and notes that Spain's Lake Caspe still ranks as a phenomenal location. He predicts the new World record will soon come from Mexico.
Jim lives near Florida's famous Farm 13/Stick Marsh bass fishery and provides a professional guide service for trophy bass, as well as crappie and the Farm's giant bluegill.

In his 17 years in Florida, Jim, himself, has released more than 80 bass over 10 pounds on artificial lures, with two being over 15 pounds. Fishing associates, especially those who fish with wild shiners, have captured even more. Other commitments prevent Jim from guiding full-time, but he estimates that among clients, his wife, and friends, there have been 150-180 in the 9-13 pound range in the past five years.
Jim subscribes to the philosophy that 'fish are dumb as rocks' and 'can be made to strike, if found'. He also advocates that most 'special' lures, colors, and fish-attracting potions are just the basis for excuses for NOT having caught fish.
Jim says there are four great 'Truths of Fishing':
- Catching fish is easy; finding them is the hard part
- Dry lures catch darn few fish
- The harder you fish, it seems the 'luckier' you get
- Momma always said to 'be safe'

A common question that we get: "Is there somewhere close to get bait and tackle?" This is where we get our bait.
