What are some spinner bait techniques I could try?

Good evening, I read your post on the WMI board, sounds like you are having better luck than I. I'm having trouble with how to properly retrieve a spinner bait. Some reason I can't produce any fish. What are some techniques I could try?

And the second question is I just purchased a new baitcaster reel, Curado 101b. I had the sporting goods clerk spool it up with line (10 #) for me and I'm not sure if the line was properly routed through the guide hole. Shouldn't the line be routed directly from the spool through the guide hole? They routed it under a cross bar and then up through the guide hole. The line was making a 90-degree turn up to the guide hole. It didn't make sense. But you never know.

Dear Andy:

Spinnerbaits can be fished slow, fast, deep, shallow, and any other way in among those parameters. There is no wrong way to fish it, providing YOU ALWAYS ARE FISHING IT AROUND OR OVER SOME TYPE OF COVER OR OBJECT IN THE WATER. That is the key. The spinnerbait looks like nothing a bass eats, so it has to be considered a 'reaction' lure. Remember; fish it around something at all times. I don't know about your reel issue. There is a model of the Garcia Ambassadeur reel that is called an anti-backlash model and it routes the line in a weird way. It also is a lot of bunk and doesn't work. Basically, from your description of the line and reel, I would say they hosed it up for you. But, the quick and easy way is to look at the booklet that came with your new reel. It should show you. If it does not show this odd line arrangement, reel all the line onto the spool and re-route the end of it directly out the level-wind eye.

Thanks for the reply back. Shortly after sending you the email, I was browsing your site and found a whole lot of information. I am truly impressed with all of the articles, what a life saver. And about the mis-spooled reel problem, I talked with the store clerk, he admitted he accidentally mis-spooled it. Problem resolved, thanks. But I did look at the info that came with the reel and it doesn't mention how to spool it.

Thanks again,

A common question that we get: "Is there somewhere close to get bait and tackle?" This is where we get our bait.
