Any channel catfish in Lake Crescent?
Dear Jim,
I know you're mostly into bass fishing but are there any channel cats in Lake Crescent and if so where and are their campgrounds on the lake where I can make a weekend out of it.
Thanks so much for your help.
Glenn
Glenn:
I would skip the Lake and go into Dunn's Creek (connects the lake to the St Johns River). The mouth of it where it joins the St Johns has a silt/sand bar. There is always moving water. That is the place for the cats. In the lake, most of the cats you will catch will probably be white catfish. They have a larger head and less of a fork in the tail than a channel cat. There are some channels, but it is a lower ratio than whites. Out at the mouth of the creek at the river is the best place for channels. I suggest you consider small crappie minnows on Carolina rigs, using a small #1 treble hook. You will never miss one with that hook and rig. They bite -- they're hooked.
Good luck. Let me know how you do.
Jim P.

A common question that we get: "Is there somewhere close to get bait and tackle?" This is where we get our bait.
