BUT, heavy shiners tend to tear at the lips when casting them. So, I usually hook them just behind the dorsal fin. Try to get the hook real close to the end of that fin structure and you will be under the bone and cartilage that forms the fin. That is a reinforcement from tearing out. Jim P.
