When all is said and done we all fished a super fluk-watermelon and all the fish were 12 to 14" We fished Okee and Garcias in submergerd grass and clear water. What lures would you use to catch larger fish? Thanx, Chuck Chuck: I really don't think the lure was the problem. There just may not have been large fish active where you fished. Usually, the most important part of the success equation in fishing is the proper selection of 'where' to fish. Can't pick apples if you don't find a blooming apple tree. But, there also may have been SO MANY small bass (who are more numerous and faster than large bass) that they simply beat the bigger fish to the lures. This happens often as the spawn winds down and all the little bucks, who were up in the shallows looking for the females, now come back and school up outside the spawning flats. They are hungry and active and may just be too numerous for the larger fish to get to a lure first. You could try a larger lure, which might deter the small bass. I am not much help, but it is what I think. My solution (yes, the same thing happens every year from late Feb through Early April; read my fishing reports in the archives about all the little bass that suddenly started showing up) is to just catch all the fish I can as fast as I can.
