With the help of our manufacturer, the famous SWIMMING WORM now has a new family member; a DOWNSIZED version to catch even MORE fish! And, we have aptly named him:
'JUNIOR'
The original SWIMMING WORM is slightly over 6 inches long; the perfect size for consistently taking bass needed to win tournaments. JUNIOR, sized at 4 inches, has the same tantalizing, swimming action and fish appeal. But, what JUNIOR does so well is open the door to more strikes from finicky clear water fish and to those smaller fish that may be spooked or just shy. If the bass happen to be very active, the small lure can literally seine the water and draw strikes from all sizes (see photo; you call that 'great expectations').
Our test result figures over the last year with the 4-inch JUNIOR style reflects 140% more strikes (that equates to 24 strikes on the 4-inch style for every 10 we got on the 6-inch original). The data also shows that, while our catch rate went up significantly, the average size of the fish decreased. But, it was not too significant - approximately ˝ pound for bass. We also caught a lot of big bluegills and crappie on the smaller lure.
In our recent time in Western North Carolina's mountain lakes and streams, the smaller JUNIOR proved one of our tickets to the smallmouths in those cold, clear waters. Plus Kentucky Spotted bass absolutely eat this smaller lure up!!
The rigging of the JUNIOR is exactly the same as for the original SWIMMING WORM size - a ball-bearing swivel between the lure and the main line and a small split shot. However, if monofilament lines are used, JUNIOR handles best on 12 pound, or less. (We actually like to use very light tackle and 6-8 lb. test. Talk about fun!! AND -- we NEVER lose a fish!) If you use the small diameter Fireline, or another 'super line' type, we recommend 14 pound and below.
