As a bit of lead-in, let's look at previous events:

• Berkley, best known for Trilene fishing lines, decided to go into an expansion mode. To do this, they used a strategy of buying other fishing industry companies that appeared well suited to their business plans and long-term goals. They choose to name the new Corporation, under which the various companies would be satellited, PURE FISHING. The basic management and staff came from the existing Berkley organization, which has been augmented, as required.

• PURE FISHING then went on to acquire ABU Garcia (Garcia Ambassadeur and Cardinal reels), Mitchell reels, Fenwick rods, Johnson Associates (the Beetle Spin and Johnson Spoon lure lines), the Spiderline company (Spiderwire, Fusion and Spiderline monofilaments), Red Wolf (terminal tackle, fishing accessories), and SevenStrand (saltwater products). And, of course, Berkley and its many fishing products is still a major portion of the PURE FISHING family.

The following is the PURE FISHING formal announcement:

'Now, PURE FISHING announced that it has purchased the fishing related assets of Remington Arms Company, Inc., including the popular Stren brand of fishing lines, effective February 10, 2004. Purchase of the Stren fishing business, headquartered in Madison, North Carolina, includes both U.S. and International operations.

Adding the Stren brand to its lineup of fishing tackle products is consistent with the strategy Pure Fishing has pursued over the last fifteen years... bringing together ever popular brands and companies that have defined fishing tackle for the world’s 125 million anglers and improving these products and expanding their sales. Brands Pure Fishing has acquired include Abu Garcia, the original baitcast reel; Mitchell, the world’s first spinning reel; Fenwick, the inventor of graphite fishing rods; Johnson, among the first spincast reels; Spiderwire, one of the first superlines; and SevenStrand, a longstanding leader and innovator in saltwater lures.'
