Weedless Rigging With An Easy Hook-set
If you use a soft fluke lure, such as our new ‘PEFECT FLUKE’ (or a ‘RIPPIN’ STICK’ - type soft jerkbait) you know how difficult it is to keep the lure weedless, while also assuring a good hook-set. If you really rig the lure fully weedless, you often make hook-setting difficult. The reverse is that, if you skimp on the weedless rigging (so you can have a better chance at a positive hook-set), you may get snagged a lot.
Well, we were experimenting with the ‘PEFECT FLUKE’ and came up with a genuine ‘now, why didn’t I think of that’ idea. Now, we can have BOTH great weedless rigging and great hook-set potential.
 The photos to the right illustrate our really neat little trick. It involves cutting a vertical slot through the lure body, from the curve of the hook to ½ to ¾-inch forward of the curve. This will not interfere with the positive use of the hook slot, but DOES allow the hook freedom of movement forward and upward when you set the hook on a fish. The unhampered hook moves forward and jumps up and out of the hook slot! This will increase your hookup ratio dramatically.
Experiment. It works great with the 'PERFECT FLUKE’, the ‘RIPPIN’ STICK’, and other similar soft plastics!
