OLD FISHIN' TIPSTER'S
TIPS AND TRICKS
Got a question about fishing, that you have never been able to figure out?
Well, along comes old Fishin' Tipster, Weekend Semi-Pro and resident backlash picking champion, with the solution.
Enhancing Catch-and-Release Survival Rates
Remove the barb from hooks before starting to fish. You will be less likely to hurt the fish when you remove the hook. It is also a little more sporting to try landing a fish on a barb less hook.
Try to keep the fish in the water as much as possible, not held up in the air.
When handling your catch, do not put hands near the gills or into the eye sockets; do not squeeze the gill areas. Holding them under the belly usually immobilizes them. Better yet, hold them by the lip.
If the hook cannot be easily removed, cut the line, the hook will gradually work its way out.
Wear wool gloves and keep your hands wet when handling fish; holding the fish with wet wool cloth works well, too.
